Sealants are a thin coating placed on the chewing surface of teeth- usually the back teeth ( molars and premolar) to prevent tooth decay. The painted on liquid sealant quickly bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth it is placed.

Sealants are ideal for kids, most insurances cover this procedure up to the age of 16. Placement of sealants are best done at the time of 6 month cleaning appointments, as this is when it is mostly noted that the molars and premolars have erupted through the gum tissue.
